View Full Version : lens alevel coursework
hello,
i aim doin a alevel coursework on lenses.
has anyone got any ideas on what i can do.
my aim is to prove the thin lens equation and the magnifiaction formula, but i dont think that will be good enough for an alevel peice of coursework.
anyone got any ideas?
any help most appreciated
any help would be appreciated :)

Have you proved those formulas yet? That sounds like a good start.
yh..i done some experiments and proved them.
quik questions...
with magnification with lenses. if u move the lens closer to the screen should the object size on the screen get smaller or bigger??

That all depends. Draw a ray diagram and see. There are basically three "sections" in a converging lens. Between the lens and the focus, between the focus and 2 times the focus, and beyond 2 times the focus. Also, the image could be at the focus or at two times the focus.
Here (http://www.glenbrook.k12.il.us/gbssci/phys/Class/refrn/u14l5db.html) is a link that explains all of the cases nicely.

Smaller, since 1/u + 1/v = 1/f , and magnification v/u = v/f -1 ,when clear real image is obtained magnification increases with image distance v and vice-versa.
