I agree thats hard to fulfil, but sooner or later we will run out of oil. So in the future we will have to find a new technology.
As I used to live in Russia, I heard that Russia would run out of oil in 15 years if they dont economize. Russia has less oil than Arabs but not greatly. This means that Arab oil will be over in nearly 20 years.
Im sure that many scientists nowadays are looking for a technology, though of course oil companies will try to hinder their research. The bolded part is the correct point. The world will never run out of petroleum: as production diminishes, other things being equal, its price will rise. Proven reserves are a really a function of price. In the meantime, we have to develop alternatives to petroleum. One simple expedient to accelerate this process is to tax petroleum. The market will respond to this price signal by developing substitutes. For the U.S., the worlds largest petroleum consumer, each 1 of tax will generate about US5 billion of revenue, not a very big hit. The U.S. has an even more powerful play: raising the motor fuels tax, among the worlds lowest. The last part, more than anything, will reduce U.S. petroleum consumption. The immediate effect will be to bring more hybrid vehicles to market. Alternative, non-fossil sources of motor fuels can be encouraged by exempting them from a least a portion of the tax increase.
So, what can we do? Drive less, drive more efficient vehicles, use public transportation more, use less electricity, invest in firms developing alternative energy sources, keep our heads cool when thinking about energy, especially nuclear energy, etc.

See how many yes answers apply to you. ? Do you select your friends based on how well your cats like them?? Does your desire to collect cats intensify during times of stress?? Do you buy more than 50 pounds of cat litter a month?? Do you think it?s cute when your cat swings on your drapes or licks your butter?? Do you admit to non-cat owners how many cats you really have?? Do you sleep in the same position all night because it annoys your cats when you move?? Do you kiss your cat on the whiskers?? Do you feed your cat tidbits from the table with your fork?? Does your cat sleep on your head?? Do you like it?? Do you have more than four opened but rejected cans of cat food in the refrigerator?? Do you watch bad TV because the cat is sleeping on the remote?? Will you stand at the open door indefinitely in the freezing rain while your cat sniffs the door, deciding whether to go out or come in?? Would you rather spend a night at home with your cat than go out on a bad date?? Do you put off making the bed until the cat gets up?? Do you give your cat presents and a stocking at Christmas?
