How far do you think Artificial intelligence will come? How far do you think it should come? What problems do you think will be encountered on the way there? How could these problems be overcome?

Assume that someone comes up with an AI unit that is smart enough to design a unit better than itself.

If we build the new unit it can then design one even smarter.

Etc, etc etc .......

Now at some point a unit will be made that doesn't require any aid from humans to design and build one smarter than itself.

It maked sense that as they get smarter they also get faster and the new improved versions are released at an exponentially increasing rate.

I refer to this as CASA (http://physicsmathforums.com/showthread.php?t=149), which is an acronym for
Complex, Analog, Self-Adjustment, which has evolved to its present state over a large exponential increment of 14 billion years.

I guess CASA (http://physicsmathforums.com/showthread.php?t=149) is just another way to say "Life."

The boys at NASA have been trying to work this out for no results. Cambridge Uni has one of the most advanced AI departments in the world and the PhD's are struggling to make the jump. AI is all about cognative processes and for every process there is more than a million options, to be honest it is not in human natures best interest to pursue this area of science. Terminator and I robot should give you a little clue of what might happen. Even if you are the godfather, the godfather always gets killed.
