Hello all! My name is Daniel, and (as I'm sure most of you gathered) I'm new to this forum. I am intrigued by all the subjects this forum presents, and can't wait to become a regular here. But, of course, this is not the reason for the thread.

You see, I'm a high school student (Sophomore), and have learned all the basic mathematics taught throughout the years of my attendance. Yet, as with any public school, the quickest pace the teacher can go is to the slowest child. Very ineffective. I'd like to take matters into my own hands. Schools (especially the poor one I attend) have crappy teachers, who could care less about the kids, and care even less about giving them a proper education. I'd like to do everything right - and from the beginning. So that I get the proper mathematics education. By the use of books, of course. I'd like to 'relearn' math from the simple mathematics to harder disciplines such as Calculus (hopefully within only a few years time if I try hard enough). So my question to you is: do you know of any good books (or series, so forth) for teaching mathematics from beginning to end properly (say basic Algebra to advanced Calculus)? And also: do you know any good books for improving speed at mathematics (such as doing math faster in your head)?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Is this the one you mean Open(dot)ac(dot)uk (www.open.ac.uk/)?

you can do the link like this [ url=www.open.ac.uk/ ]Open(dot)ac(dot)uk[ /url ] wherein (I) have spaced the [ -- ] brackets to get the machine to not read them hence reveal them, simply close the spaces to make it work, and remember to remove the Http:// as this site won't use/allow it
